유럽 연합이 마이크로소프트를 antitrust로 규제할 움직임을 보이자, 마이크로소프트가 윈도우즈와 오피스 API와 프로토콜을 무료로(연구용으로만) 공개하겠다고 나왔다.
대체로 반응은 "웃기지 마세요. 니 말을 어떻게 믿냐"인것 같다.
하긴 마이크로소프트 거짓말에 데인 회사가 어디 한 둘인가...
윈도우즈는 단지 중간 단계일뿐이고 결국은 OS/2로 간다고 사기쳐서, 그 말 믿고 OS/2용으로 제품 개발해서 물먹은 메이저 소프트웨어 회사만 해도 워드퍼펙, 로터스 포함해 부지기수이다.
아이비엠은 말할것도 없고...
하루 아침에 입 닦고 OS/2걷어차고, 워드퍼펙, 123 날리고, 오피스 수이트 시장을 날름 접수한다.
그 이후로도 온갖 야비한 수를 다 동원해서 애플 퀵타임, 넷스케이프 브라우저, 선 자바, 리얼네트웍을 물먹인다. 경쟁회사 소프트웨어 잘 안돌아가게 만들고, 필요한 기술 정보 안 주고, 온갖 협박을 다 하면서 그 동안 룰루랄라 좋은 시절 보냈다.
까짓거 소송비용이나 벌금 내봤자 윈도우즈, 오피스독점으로 벌어들이는 이익의 1/10도 안되기 때문에 몇년씩 소송 질질 끌면서 벌금은 부담 가능한 코스트로 생각하면 되는것이다.
일단 규제하면서 한 5년 정도 지가 말한대로 행동해도 정말 이넘을 믿고 풀어줘도 되나 할 판인데, 그 까짓 documentation푸는걸 어떻게 믿냐...프로그램 바꿔 버리면 그만이지...
